The International Electrotechnical Commission has two excellent resources online, for electrotechnical terminology. To quote its own description: "Electropedia (also known as the "IEV Online") is the world's most comprehensive online electrical and electronic terminology database containing more than 20 000 terms and definitions in English and French organized by subject area, with equivalent terms in various other languages: Arabic, Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Spanish and Swedish (coverage varies by subject area)."

J'adore quand, en surfant le net à la recherche de quelque chose, on tombe sur quelque chose d'autre, mais on se dit : "p***** ! ça c'est génial". Ca vient de m'arriver avec ce site - allez voir, vous verrez pour vous même.

Bon, pour les moteurs de recherche c'est pas super mon commentaire - c'est un site contenant plusieurs dictionnaires spécialisés en plusieurs langues - transport, automation, architecture, medecine, pour en nommer que quatre.

When you send the first email to your client this year, wherever he or she may be, say Happy New Year in their language...

You know that feeling when a word is on the tip of your tongue, you know the definition of the word, but you just can't think of the word itself? Or you have a couple of concepts in mind and just can't come up with the right word?

This happened to me today when having to translate the French word "frilosité", in the context of an event. Coldness came to mind...

I then happened upon the OneLook reverse dictionary - a great resource for just this type of problem. Hunting around a bit more, I then came across another reverse dictionary, not as good, but valuable for pinning down an elusive word.

I'm still toying with "frilosité", and letting the adjectival concepts of "uninteresting", "unfriendly" and "restrained" float around in my head. I'm sure something will come to me. Suggestions in a comment please...!

Festo est une entreprise (ou groupe) avec plus de 12 000 salariés dans le monde entier, travaillant dans les domaines pointus de l'industrie, l'automatisme, technologies du contrôle, electronique, etc.

Par pur hasard, je suis tombée hier sur leur dictionnaire en-ligne... un vrai bijou, en 6 langues (EN, FR, DE, Ar, SP, IT), avec un niveau de technicité très satisfaisant.

The International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science (IFToMM) has an online dictionary that is just wonderful. In fact, it is more somewhere between a dictionary and an encyclopedia (neologism needed here?).

The table of contents can be found here. I have just spent a happy hour browing through the definitions. Organized into two columns, French on the left and English on the right, here's an example:

Je viens de découvrir cet engin de recherche, spécialisé dans les dictionnaires, glossaires, encyclopédies et outils de traduction.

Je n'ai pas encore eu le temps de l'expérimenter, mais à première vue, c'est un outil pratique, à rajouter dans vos favoris !

Do you speak business jargon? More prevalent in speech than written documents (thank goodness!), any type of jargon is completely opaque to "outsiders".

My friend and colleague Miranda down the road in Vannes, pointed me to this great dictionary of business jargon.

So when you're acluistic about a company's game plan and feeling the anticipointment of a puff piece, this list of words will help you out.

L'édition complète du Glossaire de l'Economie de l'OCDE (anglais - français) est maintenant disponsible en version PDF ici. Vendu auparavent 120 €, cet ouvrage "contient quelque 30 000 termes et expressions et couvre un très large variété de domaines : science économique proprement dite, statistiques, finance et banque, échanges, gestion, comptabilité, assurances, emploi et main-d'oeuvre, développement, fiscalité."

A quand une version "en-ligne", avec le sens français - anglais ?

A défaut, pour chercher un terme en français et sa correspondance en anglais, utilizer la fonction "Search" dans le PDF.
