I have just discovered a magic trick in Wordfast... I am not sure how much of a help (or a hindrance) it is going to be, but I'll give it a try and let you know.

In an open segment, click ALT+HOME twice in quick succession...

Two excellent technical dictionaries

The International Electrotechnical Commission has two excellent resources online, for electrotechnical terminology. To quote its own description: "Electropedia (also known as the "IEV Online") is the world's most comprehensive online electrical and electronic terminology database containing more than 20 000 terms and definitions in English and French organized by subject area, with equivalent terms in various other languages: Arabic, Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Spanish and Swedish (coverage varies by subject area)."

When I wrote here about how to look after your interpreters, I was more concerned with the practical apsects of the job, the "forme" rather than the "fond". Unfortunately, we don't have much control over the content, as this poor interpreter found.

There are those who prepare minutiously, writing lists of vocab and reading every document the (conscientious) client has sent.

There are those that "wing it", trusting their linguistic skills and a bit of the blarney to talk their way out of any pickle they might find themselves in.

I am somewhere between the two: quick glance at the docs, a fair bit of blarney and a seriously good command of both languages. However, I draw the line at highfalutin' philosophical discussions and imagine this guy would probably fall into my "steer-clear" category!

Wordfast et la souris qui devient inactive

Je viens de me heurter à un problème bizarre. En utilisant Word 2007 (sous Vista) avec Wordfast, au bout de quelques minutes la souris devient inactive ! Je peux naviguer dans le document et l'éditer avec le clavier, et la souris est active dans les menus, mais pas dans la fenêtre du document. Ennervant, n'est-ce pas ?

La solution, trouvée sur des forums en anglais n'est pas simple et je n'ai aucune idée du pourquoi de la chose, mais la voici comment la solutionner :

1. Fermer Outlook et Word et appuyer sur le bouton Démarrer (coin en bas à gauche).

2. Dans le champs Rechercher, taper regedit et cliquer sur le nom du programme qui apparait.

3. Dans l'arborescence à gauche, naviguer à HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> SOFTWARE -> MICROSOFT -> OFFICE -> 12.0 -> WORD

4. Renommer le dossier Data en Data2

5. Fermer regedit et relancer Word.

Voilà ! Si cela vous arrive et vous arrivez jusqu'ici, faites moi un petit signe !

J'adore quand, en surfant le net à la recherche de quelque chose, on tombe sur quelque chose d'autre, mais on se dit : "p***** ! ça c'est génial". Ca vient de m'arriver avec ce site - allez voir, vous verrez pour vous même.

Bon, pour les moteurs de recherche c'est pas super mon commentaire - c'est un site contenant plusieurs dictionnaires spécialisés en plusieurs langues - transport, automation, architecture, medecine, pour en nommer que quatre.
