Business goobeldygook...
Do you speak business jargon? More prevalent in speech than written documents (thank goodness!), any type of jargon is completely opaque to "outsiders".
My friend and colleague Miranda down the road in Vannes, pointed me to this great dictionary of business jargon.
So when you're acluistic about a company's game plan and feeling the anticipointment of a puff piece, this list of words will help you out.

Holidays
I've just had a week's holiday - granted, at home with the kids, but with no translations, no clients calling (surprise...) and no deadlines - bliss! Spring feels very close and the energy levels are rising...
Result, the hydrangeas have been pruned, I'm up to date with the washing and my desk is clean and tidy, ready for a fresh start Monday morning. Things will have to be kept tidier, now I have hired an "assistante commerciale" for one day a week, to come and work on The Project.
Not including the summer months, there are only six months to go until the Grand Opening of my new Training Centre near Lorient. This list of things to organise is long... market studies, prospecting, advertising, decoration, opening event, etc. There just aren"t enough hours in the day to do it all myself, so Jenny will become my right hand person, one day a week, to do the marketing and preparation.
I'm beginning to get quite excited about it!

Nothing to declare...
R.A.S. = retenue à la source ou le système équivalent qui en Irlande est le P.A.Y.E. (Pay As You Earn).
Les deux abbréviations (qui évoquent des choses bien différentes) sont utilisées pour le mécanisme d'imposition qui consiste (ou en France, consisterait) à prélever l'impôt directement au imposables, éliminant le décalage d'un an entre la perception et l'imposition.
RAS en français pourrait être confondue avec "rien à signaler", qui, de fil en aiguille, pourrait devenir "Nothing to declare"...
Non, sérieusement, Minéfi a ouvert un blog sur la question de la RAS pour "approfondir le débat" et engager "une large concertation" (j'ai failli écrire consternation...). Les indépendents, d'après les auteurs, ne pourraient être inclus dans ce mécanisme... Commentaires et discussion ici.
Voilà, les revenus "nets", pourraient rééllement devenir "nets" - d'impôts !

"No ordinary translation job..."
The Guardian a publié un article très intéressant sur les défis de la traduction des livres Harry Potter ; les difficultés culturelles, la pression des fans, les obligations contractuelles,...

Je me souviens en fac d'avoir étudié les traductions en anglais des bandes dessinées Astérix - aussi hilarantes en anglais que dans leur version originale - un vrai exercise d'art !
